The Asheville folks on Twitter don’t quite know what to make of the person tweeting under a newly created handle, belechere_2010. The site claims it is an “official” festival site, and links to the city of Asheville’s Bele Chere website.

But some of the tweets at belechere_2010 take shots at the very street festival it is apparently trying to promote. Here’s a sample:

Barricades are going up in 10 minutes. [we need to keep these whiney locals out of our festival]

Announcement: We could not afford any national acts this year, instead we rounded up some local talent [shhh we are pretending to go local]

@bruisinales Budweiser is forcing us to promote them, but we will quietly tell everyone to go to your store for good, local beer #craftbeer

The Asheville Twitterati appears unsure about how to take it all. Asheville City Councilman Gordon Smith tweeted:

Seeking wisdom of the Twitter Crowd – Block @belechere_2010 ? Hard to know what to do with this one…

And Mountain Xpress editor Margaret Williams tweeted:

Who’s this masked @Belechere_2010 tweeter?

So, we’ll watch and wait along with the rest. Anyone know anything further?

The masked twitterer is probably pronouncing it "Belcher" and has a slightly Michael Mullerish wit.
