My catch

This was the first of about five or six small-mouth bass I caught this morning while fishing with Chris of The Whitewater Sportsman, a fishing guide here in Asheville. Chris caught twice as many as I did. I’ll be writing more about my adventure on the river soon.

Mercury. One reason I do not eat anything out of the French Broad. It never goes away, either.

Dr. Sylvia Earle, one of the world’s leading marine biologists, said, “I never eat anyone I know personally. I wouldn’t deliberately eat a grouper any more than I’d eat a cocker spaniel. They’re so good-natured, so curious. You know, fish are sensitive, they have personalities, they hurt when they’re wounded.”

I’m sure you learned small mouth bass are fun to catch, Jason, especially with light-weight tackle. They certainly are scrappy little fish! I can’t wait to hear more about your adventure.
