Whole Foods’ purchase of the Greenlife grocery store became official on Monday in legal terms, but don’t expect to see any big changes anytime sooon.

Greenlife store team leader Sam Wharton tells me the Asheville store will continue to operate under the Greenlife name, and relationships with local producers will remain in place. Whole Foods recognizes the fact that Greenlife is a valuable name in the community, and the new owner wants to maintain that community connection, Wharton said.

Customers will start to see some Whole Foods private label goods on shelves, Wharton said. And look for items such as organic milk and apple juice to be offered at more competitive prices, Wharton said.

Look for more in an upcoming column by me in the print edition of the Asheville Citizen-Times.
