The Asheville Area Arts Council announced in an e-mail today that it is selling the Biltmore Avenue building it’s located in. This after Ashvegas blogged last week that the building was rumored to be for sale.

What the arts council didn’t say in its press release is that the buiding, 11 Biltmore, is already under contract to a buyer. I’m checking to nail down the potential buyer.

In the meantime, another question to ponder: the arts council owns both 11 and 13 Biltmore, but is only selling 11. Why? Why not sell both, if it needs the money? Why not hang on to 11 and sell 13?

Ms. Sulock has a story on this in MX, mostly recycled from the press release. Ms. Motsinger has a story on this in AC-T, with some old reporting from her earlier puff piece on the Crystal Ball. Why is the local media so uninterested in finding out why one of what used to be one of Asheville’s important arts organizations (we’re an "arts destination," right?) appears to be going belly-up after some 40 years.

This isn’t a rhetorical question. Why is the local media staying away from this story? Not important to the community? Not enough reporter-resources to devote to it? Editors not interested? Reporters not interested? Reporters not skilled/resourceful enough to dig into it deeply?
