I’m loving Asheville’s newest drinking establishment, The Prospect. It’s down on Buxton Street, a few doors up from Dirty Jack’s, another sweet little hang-out.
The bar is essentially one big wide-open room with a single pool table. It’s got the gritty feel of the DeSoto Lounge over on Haywood Road, and perhaps exudes a little more street cred, since The Prospect is located in a little more a no-man’s-land. It’s located in the building that used to house my buddy The Lieutenant’s printing business back in the day, White Dog Printing. You can still see some ink stains on the bar floor.

The Prospect has a solid beer selection, including a couple of local beers on tap. There’s no food, which is just fine. Sometimes a bar is just a bar. The place also has a great outside space will be a primo play land once the weather warms.
Perhaps best of all are owners Phil and RyAnn. The couple are long-time workers in the food-and-beverage biz, and they’re following their dream of always wanting to have their own joint. You won’t find friendlier people, and they’re psyched about Asheville and their Prosect(s).
So get down to Buxton Street, which is near the south end of Coxe Avenue, and give them a shout. Tell them Ashvegas sent ya.
ps Here’s a nice note I just received from RyAnn:
Just thought letting you know about the upcoming event here would be a good move on our part. As it stands David Dondero and Tiny Mtns will be playing @ 8pm (Thursday, Feb. 25) and we are asking for a $5 donation at the door. Any questions please give us a call or email us. And by the way, thanks for the shout out on the radio!
Cheers,
RyAnn
One of the most rude places in town. As a local, I have consistently been treated with no respect. The bartenders here act as though they are pissed off that you have even entered the bar. You wonder what kind of torturous working conditions they are there beneath. And you know what? The bar is not even that fun. Dark, boring and they take themselves way too seriously. Haven’t seen a bartender smile here in three years. You wonder why the joint is even still in business based on all the other welcoming places on town.
Congrats on the new place. It looks great.
Oh! Good to know, I’ve been loving the Desoto, so I’l have to check it out! Thanks!
Congratulations you guys!!!! Walt and I can´t wait for summer to come and drinking some beers there!!!! It looks really pretty!!!
¡¡¡¡¡Enhorabuena!!!!!!!
Estefi 🙂
Congrats!!! You guys did an awesome job, can’t wait to visit this summer…hopefully. Wish you all the best! Love you sis.
I went last night and met Philip, the owner. It’s a cozy little pub on the edge of downtown that Philip intends to be a place for locals.
Congratulatios Ryann and Phil! The artical is fantastic! I was unable to see the pictures yet, (at work and it won’t let me acess), anyway everything sounds great. You two take care, love you Ryann! Mom
