The Wednesday Open Thread: The magic ratio

Yesterday in the office we somehow got onto the topic of “the magic ratio.” It started with somebody noting that the number 23 was a magic number. I wasn’t aware of any greater significance for 23 other than that it was Michael Jordan’s number, and he was certainly magic. Then someone tossed out the magic ratio, which I still don’t understand.

Asheville’s Jesse Barry needed a little extra magic. She appeared briefly on American Idol last night when her run ended abruptly on a Hollywood stage. We saw her in tears as the winners and losers were declared, and the show moved on to the next. Well, she gave it a great shot. And she’s such a youngster — great things ahead for Jesse, I’m sure.

What else is going on? Loyal reader Chall tells me the Temptations bar on Biltmore Avenue is all boarded up. Anybody know what’s going on? He also says there’s a rumor about a new bar opening up on Coxe Avenue. Anyone?

The big Duke-Carolina basketball game is tonight. I fear a Duke blow-out, but I also know that often when these teams tangle, you can toss out rational thinking. It’s all about the magic. Throw out the numbers. This game is about emotion and heart. We’ll see.

What else?

The Rainbow Family national gathering is supposed to be back in the southeast this summer. There are "elders" scouting locations. Some were in town recently and may still be here.

The National Forest Service is NOT a fan of their camp outs.

Jimmy John’s is going where Temptations was. I think maybe Temptations is moving, not closing up. Not sure. Would have been nice to see Jesse’s audition and Hollywood deal. But I guess it’s an honor just being nominated as they say. Those kids are talented. I got nuthin on 23.

Not sure about a bar on Coxe Ave, but I did hear about a new bar on Buxton. Rumor has it there is a new place three doors down from Dirty Jacks. Possibly called The Prospect?

I know there’s a new one just licensed with NCABC called Prospect at 11 Buxton just off Coxe. Haven’t heard about one on Coxe.
