More than a month ago, Asheville businesses and restaurants came together for a huge fundraising event to benefit Henry Thome, a little boy diagnosed with a rare form of dwarfism.

The community raised thousands of dollars to go toward Henry’s medical bills through a pancake breakfast at Laurey’s and a day when a number of businesses donated part of their proceeds to the Thomes.

The last news, posted Nov. 19 on the family’s Asheville Loves Henry web site, was that Henry had a bone marrow transplant at Duke University Medical Center.

Does anybody have an update on how Henry is doing?

Thanks for inquiring into Henry’s health status, Jason. Unfortunately, the bone marrow transplant didn’t take, but Team Thome has been encouraged to go at it one more time and they appear to have a live donor this time who also has the same immuno-virus that Henry has called CMV or Cytomegalovirus; this is apparently in their favor for donor matches as a CMV positive donor will give Henry’s body a better fighting chance at accepting the donor’s marrow. Pray that this time it works for such a sweet little guy! You can check the URL attached to get updates on him.
