The Asheville Humane Society is tweeting that its animal shelter on Lee’s Creek Road in West Asheville has been 72 hours without power, and remains without electricity. Those animals have to be chilly.

Here are a couple of recent tweets from this morning:

Our shelter is still without power-no heat for over 100 animals. We really need batteries, blankets, kerosene heaters.http://bit.ly/7r6zSy

Our staff has been incredible-getting to work & working by lamps & flashlights. The dogs & cats are getting great care.http://bit.ly/7r6zSy

But if you can get out to the Shelter with some supplies, the animals would be so happy! 72 Lee’s Creek Road. Thanks for your support!

There you have it. Help the shelter if you can. This sounds like a ripe story for follow-up. If anyone has any more information, please let me know.

WCQS is asking for emergency donations for the animal shelter to be dropped off at their offices on Broadway today until 5pm. They said they would deliver items to the shelter. They’re asking for batteries, non-electric heaters and blankets.
