"I know many of you are concerned about the exterior look and how it doesn’t fit with "Our great 1920’s deco architecture". What? Like the BB&T and the Biltmore Buillding right across the street? Art Deco, in this day and age – is flat out unaffordable – even when it is simply an effort to fake a facade. I guess color might be a valid concern, but I kind of like Zanna’s comment that it looks "very Urban", even if that is meant to be sarcastic. Also, who wants to sign-up to buy the paint for those enormous walls?"

I was referencing the Miles Bldg & Flat Iron that actually are right across the street.

And with all of the money Urban Outfitters saves by avoiding royalties & outright stealing designs from actual artists in the business, I’m sure they can afford a few cans of paint.

As far as parking goes – so long as the Civic Center isn’t holding an event, I’ve never had a problem finding a space in the Rankin Deck immediately behind the building.

First of all, I feel for all those downtown folks – mostly older and living in the highrises – who lost their CVS. No way are they getting out to the Merrimon location or any of the other more affordable, "big box" pharmacies. Ever try to ride a bus in Asheville? How about waiting for a prescription delivery some time. But I digress.

That all said and done, I am certainly pleased a company is moving into that Haywood Street "dead" space pretty quickly. Some competition with Mast General will be nice too.

Maybe it is just me, but I guess I am less worried about the look of the building and more leery of a real issue: where are all those customers going to park?

    I agree – need’s more color –
Same thing goes for the Indigo –
You think if a business was going to put that much $$$ into a building project they’d want their exterior aesthetic to at least have some appeasing sense of flair. Our great 1920’s deco architecture puts this stuff to shame.
The windows & a second story are a great improvement – they just need to step it up a wee bit more.

I hope they’re not done with the facade… I know it was a monstrous looking building already, but I hope they can do a little more. Although it does indeed look very "Urban".

How does the "sign" comply with the City "sign nazis" ……

I thought the rules stated that a "sign" had to "enclosed" as in a "picture frame" configuration and not just be "loose" on the building …..
