There’s a lot going on in town. Here’s some of it:
Turkeys flying in: I heard that Earth Fare, known for selling awesome, fresh, organic, delicious turkeys – has 600 on order. They should be arriving the first of November.
Andie, off the grid: Actress Andie MacDowell says she wants to build a house that’s completely off the grid. So says the Hendersonville Times-News. Andie, have I told you lately that I heart you?
On the list: Sylva and Cullowhee make notable watchlists, reports the Southern Highland Reader blog. When small towns in our area like Sylva start making “best of” lists, you know we’re really on the radar.
– Weekend LEAF: The Lake Eden Arts Festival, one of the best local music festivals, is happening this weekend. I hope the weather’s great.
– Citizen-Times printing plant sold? An Ashvegas emailer tells me that the Asheville Citizen-Times‘ printing plant facility out on Sardis Road sold recently for more than $2 million. That’s unconfirmed – I’ve been unable to find any property transfer documentation. The newspaper closed its printing press at the location back in January. And a few months ago, the newspaper moved out the giant press machinery. I heard most of it went into storage down at the Citizen-Times‘ sister newspaper in Greenville, S.C.
– Newman to challenge Shuler: Hendersonville Mayor
Greg Newman will challenge U.S. Rep.
Health Shuler in next year’s election, according to WLOS. This will be a race to watch. I heard it
here on the
Mountain Xpress Twitter feed.
– Punnyman John Le on the mend: Haven’t seen much of WLOSer John Le lately? That’s because he busted his ankle. He tells us all about it on the
Inside WLOSer blog.
– French Broad Chocolate Lounge update: The second floor of the French Broad Chocolate Lounge building opened up over the weekend. I heard it
here on the
Mountain Xpress Twitter feed.
– AVL election update, Disclaimer style: The Asheville Disclaimer has a high-larious take on last week’s primary election for Asheville City Council.

–
Brewery gets permits: The Lexington Avenue Brewery has its brewing licenses, according to
Mountain Xpress‘
Blogwire. I walked by the other day, and the place is looking great inside.
– Mellow Mushroom building for sale: The building, owned by former Asheville City Councilman
Chris Peterson, is on the market for $2.1 million, according to
Blogwire.
As for Taverns? Check out the Hickory Tavern at Biltmore Park Town Square. It is looking very nice and close to finish. They are currently hiring staff. It will be a nice fit for the Town Square. Also the outdoor live music at Town Square was awesome last Saturday night. And free. One of the bands was called Scenic Roots (Folk Rock) and they kept the place hopping. Check it out.
Also the Echo Gallery just opened there as well.
