Loyal reader Lesley tells me that a new sports bar should be opening this coming week in the old Dripolater space on Biltmore Avenue, right across from another popular sports bar, Wild Wing. (Note: the local Wild Wing owners filed for bankruptcy earlier this year.)

The new place will be called the Asheville Ale House, according to Lesley.

I don’t have any details on the bar proprietors or exactly what they’re planning for the space. But it’s always worth watching. Meantime, I may have to start up a blog series called “What Recession?” because everywhere I turn in this great town of ours, I see positive economic action. New bars and restaurants. Vibrant festivals. People out and about. Perhaps they’re not spending crazy like the good old days, but it sure feels to me like there is a lot of positive economic action in Ashvegas.

Thanks Lesley!

having been to the Ale House several times, I’ll try and give a fairly detailed review. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the TVs…everywhere. There are about 20 HD televisions in this bar, usually tune to any one of several sporting events. The menu is pretty standard bar food that could use a bit more variety with a few non meat items( given that asheville has a fairly large number of vegetarians) Food quality/prep overall is pretty good and the wings are excellent. The service is generally good and the management seem to be pretty friendly with their customers…however I feel this bar needs to find a more clear identity. I don’t think they are completely sure of what there clientel is and or needs to be yet, but I imagine that will get figured out over time. It’s a great place to watch any sort of sporting event (especuially NFL games during the fall as they have Sunday TIcket). As for spending time there outside of those events you’ll have to check it out for yoself to see if it is your scene or not

I am anxious to check out the Ale House and intend to pop in for an NFL game tomorrow. Hey land of bland complainer, if asheville is so bland, why the hell do you live here? Oh, and you spelled diversity wrong.

Thank you for writing about our bar, it is greatly appreciated… We are currently open, as far as parking goes, the parking lot next to the building is for our patrons. For the people that think we are just another bar in the "land of bland" come check us out and let us know if we are "bland" our current patrons say we are far from bland… Currently we show every NFL game and will show every UFC fight as well as all other sporting events. We have a large variety of food to accommodate anyones personal preference as well. We are not a common bar, we wish to be the bar of the people, we are locals and appreciate all the support from our community.

Who fucking cares? Walk, ride a bike, take the bus, is that something that we need to worry about?
