Shoes on a wire

Loyal reader Andre first turned me on to Worldwide Photowalk a few weeks back. I tossed it out there on Twitter to see if anyone was interested, and several were. I’ve got too much on my plate to do it, but local photog Wallace Shealy has take it on.

Here are the details for the first Asheville photo walk:

Welcome! We are looking for suggestions as we plan together our July 18th PhotoWalk.

Those of you from DITLOA and the MountainXpress Twitter list, feel free to join in! It is going to be great fun a gang of photographers walking together. Beginner or Pro all are welcome.

Here is the PLAN:

We start at 5:30, for evening light, in the Asheville Board of REALTORS parking lot at 37 Montford across from the chamber with free parking. Pickup your T-Shirts $10.

5:45 – 7:45 Walk

We will cross the bridge into downtown with our route on Walnut, Lexington, Coxe and Eagle. We won’t go near Pack Square or Pritchard Park. We would pay particular attention to some of the lesser known alleys and buildings around downtown.

7:45-8 — 15 minute break – go shoot one of those overdone downtown shots if you must; live statue, biking nun, Prichard Park the places we have been avoiding. Who know maybe they have moved the iron. This gives you the chance to include some of tourist shots in your upload to WWPW.

From 8:00- Dark – We will be hanging at the Beir Garden having a cool one and some food not to mention comparing shots.

Special prizes for most unsual window, building, or alley. Working on some cool gift certificates. Plus other givemes.

Dark – Asheville After Dark – Once we are well rested and refreshed several have asked to hang back a bit to shoot Asheville After Dark.

The posters  have been sent the camera shops and other places to promote the walk. Ordered T-Shirts. Arranging for prizes and sponsors. Best shot gets a copy of Scott Kelby’s new digital book. We are trying to arrange to have special places open during the walk.

July 5th we are sending out a survey. What stops should we include? Where have you wished you could shoot from? Do you know a great overlooked spot downtown? I’ll post the locations on the route like milemarkers here so you can make sure we include the places you would like to shoot. I plan to pre-walk the route next week to make sure it is doable and there are no constuction fences to climb or bridges closed. Although some of you wouldn’t find either of those obstacles to more great shots of Asheville.
