The EcoBuilders, on of Asheville’s biggest and most well-known green builders, is going under, according to anonymous tipsters here at Ashvegas.

I’d heard rumblings last year that EcoBuilders was having some financial troubles. Now it sounds like it’s for real. The general contracting company has apparently been sending out letters to customers, saying that it can’t finish jobs it has going right now.

Just one year ago, Newsweek was quoting company leader Rob Moody about his business, which was booming, in a story about the popularity of green building.

This information is unconfirmed. Can you confirm it? If you have more information about EcoBuilders, leave a comment or email me at [email protected].

Guess no one wanted to pay an extra $100K for a rain barrel. Weird…

I’ll abstain from divulging how I know this, and this is unconfirmed, but I could swear that one of the EcoBuilders team member’s kitchen was featured in February’s issue of Southern Living magazine – as an example of a stylish, green kitchen renovation… Can anybody confirm? Can’t find a link anywhere online, and my print copy (I know – how antiquated!) has already met its recycling fate. I mean – my… neighbor’s copy…

And, Ashvegas, I will freely admit that I regularly consult your blog to keep up on local news. Thanks for keeping me in the loop!

Your post feels like a confirmation because I heard that last week around the office. Unless we have the same source. 🙂

We are curious how EcoHouse (their realty outfit) holds up through this, if it even can.

Some subcontractors are not getting paid. I have prepared liens for subcontractor clients in recent days against Eco

Everything is tanking. Look to downtown’s ticketing/towing practices as a credible measuring stick.

That would be an interesting development…

Don’t know if it is true but I heard they were getting bought out by Deltec. I hope they survive in some fashion. There are some really good folks in that group.
