Had to work today in spite of the snow… getting from Woodfin to the River Arts District was interesting, and required a slingshot/drag race approach to get up the hill from my apartment. Roads were fine as long as you went slow… unlike 95% of the people around me who acted as if nothing had happened and were darn sure going to prove no snow would slow them down! Now, getting home from downtown last night was very interesting. The Elk Mtn. Road exit off 240 was littered with people who failed to realize that momentum is your friend when going UP an icy/snowy hill. There were cars falling off the exit left and right. They should teach snow-driving concepts in driver’s ed… most people can’t function in it around here!
Facebook, house cleaning, Judge Mathis, and baking are all in order. I’m thinking cheesecake. It’s not too bad at my house in Fairview, but it wasn’t too bad on Inauguration Day either when I risked my life to get in. I never missed a day of work because of weather when I lived in the great white north. It’s different here because of those, you know, mountains. And much of the roads go untreated. All of us who stayed home made it safer out there for those of you who did not. Glad to do my part.
Just got word I dont have to go in at all! Back in a sweatshirt! I made the hubby drive to the gas station to get the local, up to the minute, news from the neighborhood dudes who spend the day there, everyday. Drinking coffee and petting the few dogs who visit them.
Word is Mt. Carmel is only decent for 4wd. Few people didnt make it around the turn from hell. Time to throw some more snowballs at the dogs!

Getting from Weaverville to Woodfin was a challenge, even with 4wd. I recommend hot chocolate, sledding and facebook.
Lovely snowfall, but it still amazes me how people around here freak out at the very mention of snow. Absolutely bizarre behavior. Streets in Asheville area fine, yet everything seems to be closed.
It was nice to not fight with my night owl children this morning, but they will be home all day. (I don’t believe they have had a complete week of school since the Christmas break. Kind of difficult to get work done.) The wind is a little brisk on top of this hill.
Roads are pretty slick in Kenilworth. But my handy dandy studded snow tires- the last remnants of my past life up North- are serving me well today.
I think I’ll start baking. Any requests?
Streets are fine in Asheville. Go any further north then 240 at your own risk.
