The Carolina Stompers alerts us that Clear Channel is preparing to launch a massive restructuring that will result in some lay-offs. The question is: how will employees of Asheville’s Clear Channel stations be affected?

In Asheville, Clear Channel has a major presence:

It owns 99.9 KISS FM radio, which is my favorite local radio station. It just is. I love my country music. It owns Star 104.3, which is not bad. It owns Rock 104.9, which isn’t bad. (And on its web site, you can find a MILF of the Week feature. Not bad.)

It owns WWNC AM 570, which has a long history of strong local news coverage and, more recently, a strong talk-radio presence, now embodied in Matt Mittan.

It owns AM 880 The Revolution, the home of “progressive” talk radio. Lots of liberals love The Revolution.

And it owns AM 1400 The Peak, which I’ve never listened to.

If anyone knows how the Clear Channel restructuring will shake out, let us know. In the meantime, what’s your favorite local radio station?

93.3 is the rock station in Greenville. They play a lot of Pearl Jam, Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Temple Pilots, Godsmack, stuff like that.

Lena, what is 93.3? I agree with you — 99.9 is the best.

I noticed a few months back that 104.3 and B93.7 had replaced their late afternoon DJ with the Ryan Seacrest show … I figured they had possibly eliminated their afternoon DJ in exchange for a syndicated show. Yikes.

In answer to your question, I gotta say 99.9 is the best Asheville station (though I miss the Breakfast Club with Drew and Chuck! They were the best!) and 93.3 The Planet has the best morning show (tickle it, guuuuuuuys). Is 93.3 still Clear Channel?

    TK, that is not nice!

I don’t listen to any one station but be very careful what you speak or it will come back to haunt you.

What if it was you feeding your family with the pennies you make there.

AM 1400’s programming is nothing more than a simulcast of WWNC’s except for an early morning call-in buy, sale, trade radio flea-market.
