Former WLOS television personality Maggie Lauterer, who left her television career to take on former U.S. Rep. Charles Taylor in a landmark political race in the Western North Carolina in the mid-90s, left a comment with NPR’s Weekend Edition. The radio show played her comment on Sunday morning.

I missed the context of Lauterer’s thoughts — I think she was commenting on a story about buying local. Lauterer was stressing the importance of the local Christmas tree industry to our region. Lauterer, if I remember correctly, hails from Avery County, where Christmas tree farming is big, big business.

After politics, Lauterer turned to a life of religious devotion. Now, the Rev. Maggie Lauterer servers as pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Burnsville.

Great to hear from Maggie!
