WLOSers are relentless in their countdown to the day in February when over-the-air analog signals for television will stop and it will all move to digital. When that happens, people receiving their TV over the air with antennas will have to get a set-top box, or get cable or satellite, to receive a signal. And WLOSers want to be sure the don’t lose any views.

So they’re mentioning the deadline during every newscast. They’re telling people to go online at dtv.gov for more information. And they’re scrolling the warnings as many times as possible.

Despite all that, you know there will still be thousands of old people next year who freak out on deadline, saying they had no clue what was going on.

I don’t see what the big deal is and I’m sick and tired of hearing about it. Does WLOS really need to keep bringing this up every stinking day? And not just them, but there are tons of ads every day on every channel warning us to go buy a converter box or assuring us that if we’re on cable and satellite we’ll be just fine. If something REALLY important was about to happen, we wouldn’t see near this much TV time devoted to it.

And yes, you’re right, there will be lots of people, young and old, who will say "well, nobody told me this was going to happen!" But is it really that big of a deal? They’ll lose their TV signal, they’ll figure out something is wrong, they’ll buy a converter box or a new TV and life will go on.
