I was sincerely appreciative of an e-mail I received recently, from loyal reader Paul. To wit:

Hi Ash,

My name is Philip. I’m a 40 year old husband with 2 kids, 7 and 9. I work here in Ashevegas for one of the large local printing companies. I’m a classically trained musician with an education degree to boot… and I’m conservative, a conservative Christian to top it off.

I know your readers don’t necessarily fit my profile, but that’s OK. I have read and enjoyed you blog for more than a year now and have been very impressed at how you manage to cover many diverse topics… even topics I don’t agree with… in a civil manner. You didn’t “gush” over Senator Obama’s visit to our city and this morning I read your post about Govenor Palin, it was gracious and non-inflamitory (Maybe a wee bit sarcastic?) when you could have swung for the wall. The comments were what I expected so I wasn’t suprised there. You had every opportunity to instigate an all out hate fest and you didn’t. That’s good journalism. Thanks.

So now I’ll sit back and sip my “Neocon kool-aid” and look forward to Ashevegas’ next greatest post.
