Knoxville had the highest prices, according to KnoxNews.com:
Knoxville has the highest gas prices in the country, according to AAA.
However, prices are starting to come down from record highs this weekend.
Gas shipments on Colonial Pipeline’s main trunk into Knoxville are expected to resume today, Pilot Travel Centers CEO Jimmy Haslam said today. The first batch of gas to reach Knoxville via the pipeline in at least a week is expected this afternoon, Haslam said. Pipeline shipments have been distrupted by hurricanes, causing a fuel shortage in Knoxville and elsewhere.
Pilot today lowered its price at the pump to $4.499 for a gallon of regular unleaded, from a peak of $4.999 this weekend.
As gas supplies in the Knoxville market are replenished Haslam said he expects gas prices to return to the low to mid $3 range.
The AAA Fuel Gauge Report, which measures prices daily based on credit card swipes at 85,000 gas stations around the country, put Knoxville’s average price for unleaded gasoline at an all-time average high of $4.652 per gallon, based on the last swipes Sunday. That was almost 35 cents ahead of the second-highest average, Asheville, N.C., at $4.303 per gallon of unleaded.
Jim Lott, a spokesman for AAA in Middle Tennessee, said the club’s gas price survey showed the average per gallon cost in Tennessee jumped to $4.11 from $3.94 reported Sunday. He said the report showed Knoxville at No. 1 on the price list, a ranking typically claimed in Alaska.
Cities in California averaged close to, but not more than, $4 per gallon. Cities in Texas averaged generally around $3.60-$3.70 per gallon, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report.
