This sounds like one big bust. I saw the full-page ad in the paper, and wondered what was up with this. It sounded too good to be true, and it looks like it was. You’d think Asheville Civic Center management would look stuff like this over before allowing it in, but then again, maybe not.

APD assists with state anti-counterfeiting operation
ASHEVILLE – The Asheville Police Department on Aug. 10, 2008 provided logistical support and aid with evidence and property collection during a state investigation into copyright violations in the area.
The operation resulted in the seizure of $199,945.95 worth of counterfeit merchandise.
The North Carolina Secretary of State Counterfeit Goods Task Force led the operation at the Asheville Civic Center in response to a complaint of counterfeit goods being sold at an “Inventory Reduction Sale” at the facility from Aug. 8-10.
Officers seized items such as clothing, handbags, jewelry, watches, cameras and CDs. Also seized were counterfeit Disney and NASCAR items. In addition, officers seized $4,249.00 in cash from the following individuals who were charged in the operation:
