Syntax reminded us of a late, great Ashvegan, in responding to our post about ego-Andie MacDowell. Thank God somebody other than us remembered that Shirley was from Ashvegas:

you know, i’ll bet that shirley hemphill never got her ass kissed by the locals as much as andie macdowell does. at least shirley hemphill had range, and could actually act her way out of a paper bag. and she never pronounced “didn’t” like “dee-taint”.
wasn’t there a character on “what’s happening” named dee? if so, that’s gross. i’m sorry..

Someone posting on this board remembered Shirley from her Ashvegas days, too.
