As Ashvegas reported here, Asheville Citizen-Times newspaper executive editor Susan Ihne is no longer top editor at the newspaper. The information was passed around today, but apparently there’s been no official announcement.

How long will the newspaper remain mum about the leadership change? Gannett is always pretty quick about announcing change, especially when the company wants a positive spin on it. Here’s the announcement about Ihne’s arrival in Asheville. And here’s the announcement about Bob Gabordi’s transfer. Gabordi was the editor Ihne replaced.

Tam said "Gannett would be very smart to name a local staffer, such as Phil Fernandez, to be the permanent editor. "

    Nailed that one!

Susan Ihne was never successful at the Asheville Citizen-Times. In fact, she was strongly disliked and routinely ridiculed by the vast majority of the staff. This had a lot to do with the fact that her husband, John Yenne, was the online editor of the same paper. Gannett would be very smart to name a local staffer, such as Phil Fernandez, to be the permanent editor. More than likely, Gannett will bring in another person from one of their other far-away papers just as they did with Ihne. More than likely, that editor will know nothing about Asheville and Western NC and we will continue to get the same poor quality daily newspaper. Thank God we have access to online news!

Yes, but it took awhile for Bob to be replaced … Point is, announcements were made as soon as the deals were struck. Remember the Virgil / Jeff Greene changeover, how fast that was? They were mum when Jeff got the boot, they’ll be mum about Susan until someone replaces her.

give it a month. If you notice, Gabordi’s announcement was in September. Ihne’s was October. Not really the fastest turnaround.
