sanctum_sully_2014This is gonna be good:

Bluegrass musicians, Sanctum Sully, release their third studio record Southern Trees on May 30 at the Isis Restaurant and Music Hall. Included in the cost of the advance ticket purchase price of $10 is a copy of their new album. Contrary to normal operations, tickets purchased day of the show are only $8 but do not include a copy of the new release.
Southern Trees follows 2012’s Trade Winds which was released locally with some acclaim as well. The album features fiddle virtuoso Lyndsay Pruett as the only guest musician. Pruett will be joining the band onstage at the Isis along with many other “friends” as part of the event. “Asheville, and especially the bluegrass scene, is a rare collective of superbly talented musicians who often collaborate,” says mandolin player and vocalist Jay Franck. “The folks that will join us onstage at the Isis are folks you’ve seen in many different bands in town.” continues Franck.
On the heels of their maiden voyage to the bluegrass and acoustic music mecca of Merlefest, Southern Trees places Sanctum Sully in the rare air of local bands having been together for more than 5 years and 2 records. The band has played all the Asheville haunts including multiple appearances at Bele Chere. “We’ve always tried to offer something for everyone, not just the fans of traditional bluegrass. Our songs are a bit different…they’re Sully songs,” says guitarist and singer, Win Webster.
Southern Trees was recorded locally by Bill McDonald, who also worked on “Trade Winds” and mixed/mastered at Nomatic Studios by Michael Hynes.
Sanctum Sully:
The boys of Sanctum Sully hail from Asheville, N.C., but their music comes from a different space: The beer-stained bar stools where blues, rock and bluegrass swap stories and trade tall-tale tunes.
A polished five-piece acoustic unit that’s been voted one of Western North Carolina’s top three bluegrass bands for four years running, the members of Sanctum Sully grew up as fans of numerous genres before ultimately joining forces in 2008. With three-part harmonies, mandolin, guitar, banjo and bass, Sanctum Sully can certainly pull off a traditional bluegrass tune in style. But their blues-riffs, crowd-infecting energy and can’t-believe-it-covers make them something notably different and indisputably fun. They are a bluegrass band that rocks … hard.
