What a incrediable sexy man. He needs to spank me instead of Ann Coulter! : } What a dashing cleft in his chin.
Great stories, guys! Thanks!
I saw Rollins in Asheville in the late 90s. I remember him saying the quote Melissa sited. He then went on to say what a wacky time he had hanging out with and admiring the incredibly wasted Ozzy Osborne and company. He also read long passages from a Thomas Wolfe book. The most memorable part of the evening was that we preceded the event by going to Mellow Mushroom for the first time. It was horrible. Each time we went back, it was the same.
“If you hate your parents, The Man or The Establishment, don’t show them up by getting wasted and wrapping your car around a tree. If you really want to rebel against your parents: outearn them, outlive them, and know more than they do.”
— Henry Rollins
I actually did an email interview with Rollins that didn’t get in in time for the Xpress. I asked him about Wolfe and this is what he said.
"Some of the things he wrote in his first two books were things I have been waiting all my life to read in a book. He even has a passage in I think it’s in ‘Of Time And The River’ where he talks about reading all these books just to find the one. I think he was really great, especially ‘Look Homeward Angel’ and the aforementioned."
