WLOSers said tonight at 6 p.m. that former Sheriff Bobby Medford was released from jail this morning and is now chilling out at his sister’s home in Alexander.

Medford, as you know, is facing federal charges related to illegal gambling. Last week, a federal judge said it was OK for Medford to be released from jail in advance of his scheduled March trial.

Charu said Medford is staying with Helen Reece out in Alexander. Neighbors chatted with Charu, but they didn’t want to go on camera. Two of Medford’s former deputies – Butch Davis and Guy Penland – have also been released from jail and are back in Buncombe, Charu said.
