For all you people that were into the Yancey County “crop circle” a few weeks ago, and the ongoing fascination with cattle mutilation stories (see the recent column in the McDowell County News newspaper) here’s an event y’all can check out and learn from.

Our own self-appointed ghostbuster, Joshua Warren, is going to hold a cookout for the freaky-deaky folks into paranormal shit, then everyone’s going to release some “UFOs” into the sky. Whoever has the best flying saucer, made from helium and light sources like glow sticks, wins a “prize pack” sure to include Warren’s books, Warren’s web site and anything else Warren can hawk.

Warren, who claims to have videotaped real UFOs, says this:

“Seeing creative fake UFOs will help us rule out fakes when analyzing UFO pictures and footage. Secondly, it’s just going to be downright fun; a chance to meet with new people who share an interest in the unknown and see a fascinating light-show. If you haven’t seen an actual UFO, this should at least give you the experience to some degree.”

I don’t know how good Warren and his L.E.M.U.R. crew are at sniffing out ghosts, but I do know he’s one hell of a huckster.

If you go, you’ve got to bring your own food and drink. And if you want to launch a UFO, you’ve got to bring all your own materials. I guess it’s a small price to pay to hang with some spooksters.
When is the madness? 5 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Barnardsville community center.
