Just a quick follow-up to tell you that Highland Brewing’s awesome Cold Mountain Ale went to the distributor on Friday. That means local bars tapped kegs last night or today, and the bottled beer will be on store shelves Tuesday or Wednesday.

In the past, this beer has sold out, so buy early and often.

The Beer Guy got the first taste, and here’s what he reports:

The verdict: another winner. The 2007 Cold Mountain has all the tastes we’ve come to expect, and closely follows last recipe in flavor. The beer, made for the first time at Highland’s new brewery in East Asheville, is a tad drier than last year’s Cold Mountain, but remains very mellow and extremely drinkable, with deep rich brown ale notes and lots of spicing.

Highland has also made a beer that’s only being sold at restaurants on the Biltmore Estate. A year or two ago, it was called Vanderbilt Pale. The new beer is called Cedric Pale.
