From the Raleigh News & Observer’s Under the Dome political column:

A UNC-Chapel Hill journalism student’s piece focusing on the upscale location of presidential hopeful John Edwards’ campaign headquarters was scheduled to air Monday night on cable television. But Carla Babb’s report was probably already one of the most-watched Carolina Week segments in history before it aired, thanks to YouTube and the national attention drawn by criticism from Edwards’ campaign. By Friday morning, her piece had been viewed about 300 times online. After news reports about it went online, though, it slowly moved up – to about 2,000 by dinnertime. Then, in a few short hours, it jumped to 20,000, then 30,000 and finally hit 53,000 shortly before midnight, thanks in part to a link from The Drudge Report. Over the weekend, the numbers kept accumulating, in part due to coverage in The New York Times and The N&O and links from blogs. By Monday, the video had been seen more than 147,000 times.
