Don’t kid yourself. Folk Nation is one of the grand-daddies of street gangs. It started in Chicago and purportedly began in the prison system there. Controlling gang wars and drug trade, it expanded nationwide in the 80s. Whenever you see a six pointed star in street grafitti, you’re probably looking at the work of Folk, or a gang allied with the Folk. The six pointed star honors one of their former leaders, "King" David Barksdale. (Five pointed stars in grafitti usually indicate the work of their rival gang, "People Nation". Folk colors are almost always black and white. They ally with the Crips in many parts of the country, and you wouldn’t believe how many local gangs are under their control.
Agreed!
Is it just Asheville that has a gang called "Folk Nation?" Cause that sounds pretty granola to me.
