What was in the WLOSer news on Tuesday:

More cops on the street
U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler stopped by the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department to say he was fighting for more federal funding to put more cops on the streets. Holly Headache, who seems to have taken more of the lead stories at 6, did the boring report.

In other crime news…
Brandson Watson, the McDowell County deputy who was going 120 mph on I-40 in February when he hit another car and caused a wreck that killed a 2-year-old, was indicted on misdemeanor charges… A juvenile escapee from the Swannanoa Detention Center is back in custody. The kid escaped more than a week ago and was found in Gaston County, where he’s from… And some teens tried to break into the safe in the ACE hardware store in Swannanoa… Also, there was a wreck on Highway 74-A this morning. A truck collided with a Buncombe County-owned truck. One man was injured.

It’s still dry
WLOSers said hay farmers don’t have much hay to cut because it’s been so dry. Meantime, cattle farmers are thinking about selling some cows because it will cost too much to import hay to feed them.

S&W gets new life
WLOSers said the old S&W Cafeteria building on Patton Avenue will get new once a developer is finished with it. The developer will turn the building into a nice restaurant with a cafe next door, and will build 10 condo units on the third and fourth floors… In other restaurant news, WLOSers said the Lone Star chain restaurant in a strip mall off Airport Road still isn’t open.

Local man wins gas guzzler
WLOSers said a local dude won a giant red Chevy truck pimped out with stuff from Hendrix Motor Sports. It was some sort of insurance company contest.

Crop circles in West Asheville
John “Punnyman” Le zipped out to West Ashvegas to file a report on some alleged “crop circles.” Le did it all tongue-in-cheek, and put together a fun little report if you ignore his “grass roots movement” quip and his “is this X-Files or one for the circular files” quip. Le’s on a roll.

Le’s report was great…truly great. I’m glad he did it tongue-in-cheek, realizing the absurdity of it all…especially since tire tracks and booze bottles were found at the site. Ten points for John Le. Minus 10 points for the person who wrote Blunt’s intro question of "could they be evidence of mountain aliens?" MOUNTAIN aliens??? WTF??? And yes, I’m still harping on their over-use of the word "mountain" as an adjective. 😛
