Wildfires rage
There are big brush fires in Jackson County and further out in Western North Carolina. One fire destroyed a house in Murphy and threatened two others. Conditions remain dry, according to WLOSers.

Paddler drowns
A paddler on the Cheoah River drowned after getting dumped from a raft. Be careful on the rivers because whitewater season has begun, WLOSers said.

Cafeteria worker quits
Here’s the story from WLOSers: a sophomore at Asheville High was in the cafeteria self-serve line and was piling on the food. The cafeteria manager told the student he’d have to pay more for the extra food. There were words exchanged, and in the end, the cafeteria manager quit, telling Cherub Charu that he was tired of dealing with “rude” students.

Parent upset with Erwin
Some irate parent has put up signs around a business in Leicester expressing displeasure with Erwin High School officials, who recently suspended several girls softball players for violating team rules. The parent said there’s no leadership in the program and rules aren’t enforced evenly.

    20 bucks says the kid was taking to much food and the caf worker called him fat, and things went downhill from there.

    The food industry can be a harsh mistress.
