Airplane crash
Two people died and a doctor at Murphy Medical Center in Cherokee County was critically injured in a plane crash Sunday night near the airport in Andrews. No word on cause of the crash. Holly Headache, who was on the scene, said the plane clipped power lines.

It’s cold outside
The frigid temperatures overnight continue to wreck havoc with local crops. Apple farmers say their apple crops are just about 100 percent destroyed. Strawberries remain in danger, too. This devastating a cold snap hasn’t been seen since the 1950s, say the farmers.

Burn a candle for me
WLOSers said somebody left a freaky message for some female residents of two local apartment complexes. The message said basically – burn a candle in your window if you want to meet me. The Forest apartments and Cranbrook are warning residents to be careful.

No details in death
Police are being tight-lipped about the discovery of a 47-year-old woman’s body at her home in Henderson County. The woman’s body was found late Friday. No real details at all have been released.

In other news…
The state DOT is going to build a new bridge over the French Broad River along Long Shoals Road. The work will mess up traffic for the next three years… Two firemen have been promoted to battalion chief… And Chief Michele Hicks wants to raise the minimum wage for workers on the reservation from $7.75 an hour to $8.50 an hour. This is for non-gaming workers.

Actually, I think the Murphy doctor was the injured one and he’s still alive (at least he was as of Monday night). The other two died.
