Here’s a little taste of some Saturday and Sunday news.

Sunday round-up
The Old Fort police officer killed in a single-car wreck the other night was buried Sunday. Some 500 people came to memorialize the 23-year-old… Heath Shuler was on Fox News Sunday… There were some snow flurries Sunday morning… And the USS Asheville nuclear submarine is going to get a $21 million upfit.

Saturday round-up
Car wreck
In a mini-advertisement for Volvo, *Kassandra “Special K” Pride told us about how a Volvo sedan with five teen-aged boys in it rolled down an embankment on Tunnel Road and into the Prestige Suzuki car dealership. Nobody was seriously injured. The wreck caused $10,000 in damage, Special K said.

Car wreck #2
A woman was in critical condition after a police chase through Buncombe and McDowell counties. The chase ended in a wreck in Black Mountain in a parking lot.

Mediacom v. Sinclair
WLOSers reminded us that they’re back on Mediacom cable systems in Western North Carolina. No word on what the agreement was, but Mediacom has agreed to pay Sinclair’s legal fees. Jack Conners, general manager of WLOS, said he was happy.

Power plant
Woodfin residents met at the Weaverville library on Saturday to talk about Progress Energy’s new power plant they’re going to build in Woodfin. Heather Rayburn was there.
