Note to all you Mediacom people: Forget trying to pick up WLOS on a satellite dish or rabbitt ears. Just keep coming back to Ashvegas. We’ll give you all the news you need to know.

Trailer park blues
WLOSer Kassandra “Special K” Pride went out to Weaverville to sit in on a meeting of people who live in the Mountain Terrace Mobile Home Park. The trailer park folks got together at the local library to figure where they going to move now that a Wal-Mart and a Lowe’s are moving in.

The corporations have promised to pay $46,000 to help residents move, which comes out to about $1,000 per person in the trailer park, Pride said, and that’s not enough. Residents have until May to get out. One guy said it’s difficult to find a new place to live, a place that will allow a 21-year-old trailer to move in.

Someone with the Affordable Housing Coalition was at the meeting trying to help.

Carolyn Ryan anchors
Carolyn “Little Red” Ryan held down anchor duties Saturday night. Guess Russ “Beefcake” Bowen gets some time off.

Another beautiful day
The high in Ashvegas Saturday was 66. It was another spectacular day.

In other news…
They were feeding Christmas trees into a wood chipper in Jackson Park in Henderson County on Saturday… Now that WLOS is off the air on Mediacom’s cables system, which serves some 28,000 homes in Western North Carolina, people were driving to Mediacom looking for antennaes. But a Mediacom spokesman said a shipment of rabbit ears got diverted to Greensboro, so they took names and said they’d hand ’em out on Monday. Suckers…. The deadline to pay your property taxes without penalty was Saturday. County officials will start charging you interest on late taxes now… Some young woman from Tennessee named Kaylee Radzyminski was collecting CDs and DVDsat the Ashvegas Mall that she said she’ll ship to troops overseas. It’s part of her Tunes 4 the Troops campaign… There aren’t as many meth labs now than there used to be… And WLOSer Edward McDonald stumbled through the sports report after forgetting to put on his microphone at the start of his segment.
