WLOSer Jenny Dunn is leaving the station. So those “Gettin’ it Dunn” segments will, in fact, be done. The station sent out an e-mail a week or two ago making the announcement.

Dunn worked for WLOS for three years before leaving in 2001 to move to Raleigh. Word was she was chasing love when she moved. But two years later, she was back in Ashvegas, and holding down the weekend sports anchor job. The former synchronized swimmer (she made the U.S. national team) has done a good job reading sports news and entertaining us by getting right in there and showing us how easy it is to participate in sports.

Dunn is a far cry better than Larry “Hee” Hawley, and a breath of fresh air next to Stan the Man. Wonder who will take her place? Feel free to apply.

By the way, the station is still advertising for a news anchor/reporter position and a reporter-photographer-bureau position (Mary Judlicka’s spot in the Rutherford bureau, we presume.)

Just found this site. Glad to see someone giving WLOS what they have coming to them. I am so tired of this low budget "everythings fine in the neighborhood" TV station. Shame we have to watch Greenville, SC TV to get a clue what’s going on somewhere close. WLOS if you can’t finance a decent news cast get out of the business.

Actually, no, it didn’t shut down its news operation at that time. It did cut back as it became one of Sinclair’s News Central stations. Some anchors, reporters, producers and photographers stayed; others got "let go" (aka, "canned"). It wasn’t until this spring that the mighty WB22 news operation completely shut down.

She didn’t get "canned" in Raleigh. The station she was at shut down its news operation.

Could be that it’s a lot more important to you to cover a sport if you’re interested in dating some of said sport’s players. And a couple of years in Raleigh covering the Hurricanes before she got canned and sent back to Asheville might also have influenced her interest in reporting on them once she got back here.

Jenny Dunn was the only sportscaster at WLOS that gave the Carolina Hurricanes decent coverage. I know Asheville isn’t a huge hockey city, but there are Canes fans in the area and they did win NC’s first national championship. Thanks for your work Jenny…and thanks Ashvegas for finding out this information.
