Pizza topping not to her liking
Cherub Charu at 11 on Wednesday night brought us the story of a local woman who says she found maggots squirming in her pizza this past weekend and has filed a complaint with the Buncombe County health department.

The woman said she picked up three Little Ceasars Hot-n-Ready pizzas in Candler for her son’s birthday party and got through all but about four slices when someone noticed what looked like little bits of rice to her. Later, she looked at the pizza again, pulled back the yummy cheese and “saw things slithering” and burrowing back down into the yummy dough.

A county health inspector said samples have been sent to the state medical entymologist to determine what, if any, insect larvae was found on the pizza. Charu also interviewed the pizza story spokesman, Laneal Vaughan (who was a top tennis player in his day in high school and college), who said health inspectors spent two days in the pizza store and found nothing. The place has a good health record and no history of problems with flies or anything.

This all reminds us of WLOSers other big hyped story: “Claw in Soup.” Remember that one? They quoted a local woman saying she found some kind of claw thing in her soup. But WLOSers never followed up to tell us if it was real or just another fake news story.

Welcoming Wal-Mart
Buncombe County will be home to another Wal-Mart Supercenter. The county Board of Adjustment approved a plan by Wal-Mart to build a new Supercenter on Airport Road.

Last month, Wal-Mart dropped plans to build a Supercenter in West Ashvegas off Smoky Park Highway. So they just went outside the city limits and found a good location. As if Airport Road isn’t busy enough already.

More on the dart attacks
Hendersonville cops told WLOSers that they’ve gotten a lot of tips after news broke that somebody has been shooting darts at people. Two people were hit a few days ago in Henderson County, and the Hendersonville police chief says now that at least half a dozen people have been stuck with the four-inch-long, needle-like darts in both Henderson and Buncombe counties.

Body found
Henderson County deputies found a woman’s body and need help identifying it. The body was found Tuesday on Francis Road after an anonymous caller tipped them. The cops say the area has been home to drug activity and assaults.

This was weird
Police say a Marion man who disappeared two weeks ago has been found. Cops say he’s safe, but they won’t say where or how he was found. Why bother telling us?

In other news…
Jon “Punnyman” Le went down to Biltmore Village to hear city officials explain their new plan for releasing water from the North Fork Reservoir during big storms. Two years ago when we got hit with the floods, the city was criticized for not releasing water soon enough from the reservoir… Miss Asheville, Amanda Tweed, is on her way to compete for Miss North Carolina… and the Ashvegas Chamber of Commerce held its annual meeting last night and gave awards out.

Translator
Here’s a translator to help you understand WLOSer codespeak:
a Tar Heel teen – some kid in some other part of North Carolina i.e. not from around here
a mountain lawmaker – the use of the word “mountain” means far Western North Carolina; hinterlands
creature – animal, usually wolf-hybrid dog
encarriaged – Diva Darcel’s way of saying “encouraged;” see “harried,” which means “hurried,” and “harricane,” which means “hurricane.”

"Mountain" in this case actually means "We want everyone from across the area to tune in, so we are being vague enough to hopefully intrigue you".

99% of the time "mountain"= buncombe county and they just want to interest all the other parts of the viewing area.
