This is a great photo from the Digital Courier, the online edition of the Rutherford County newspaper. Here’s the caption:

Frank Murray gives “Annette,” 32, a bath before The Great American Circus puts on a show Tuesday afternoon in the Mighty Dollar parking lot in Forest City. “Annette” is one of two elephants fea tured in the show along with other animals such as a monkey and a camel. Danielle Lovell/ Daily Courier

Hot mountain blog
Here’s a hot mountain blog we hadn’t heard of before. Not sure what exactly it’s called, but it’s put together by a group calling themselves “Citizens for the reform of Mitchell County.”

It started as a way to stay on top of the tragic Mitchell County jail fire back in 2002, in which eight inmates were killed. The residents started the web site as a way to keep the case alive and demand answers from the State Bureau of Investigation.

Now the site has morphed into a hot bulletin board, with people slinging mud about local political candidates in this year’s elections. The hot topic right now seems to be the race for sheriff. It’s not organized very well, but it’s a fun read. Check it out here, Citizens for the reform of Mitchell County.

That elephant looks so relaxed and content. Can Frank come over and give me a spa spray, you think?
