Press release here:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC, in partnership with the Grey Eagle, presents the 5th annual Bands for Kids’ Sake Saturday, April 23 at 7pm. Enjoy your favorite artists played by your favorite local bands! Ticket sales benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC and are $10 at the door.

Bands donate their time and talents to help BBBS raise awareness and funds meaning proceeds from ticket sales directly benefit the organization. Bands include: Sons of Ralph (covering Bill Monroe), Pick Your Switch (playing the music of Bruce Springsteen), Buncombe Turnpike (covering Johnny Cash, Paul McCartney and more), Cobra Horse (as John Cougar Mellencamp), Fifty Year Flood (covering women of punk/post punk) and The Northside Gentlemen (playing the music of Booker T and MGs, The Ventures and others).

Big Brothers Big Sisters offers unique one-on-one mentoring opportunities matching BIGS (adults) with LITTLES (youth) to provide a caring, consistent adult friend and role model.

“Bands for Kids’ Sake is a great opportunity for BBBS to thank our Bigs and encourage others to become involved in the lives of Asheville youth,” said Meghan Rogers, fundraising and marketing coordinator. “We see every day the difference mentors make in their Little’s lives.”

Nearly 70 kids are waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister. Being a Big means being a friend and role model. You don’t have to change your life to change theirs – involve them in everyday activities such as landscaping or hiking with your dog. Other volunteer opportunities include mentoring one hour each week at a school or after-school program.
