Former Dave Steel location

That’s the question. What would be the best use of this key location in Asheville’s River Arts District? The photo at top comes courtesy of my colleague Polly McDaniel at the Asheville Citizen-Times, looking up from the corner of Clingman Avenue and Roberts Street. The shot below is by me, taken from the opposite direction.

Looks like a good spot for the Orbit DVD megastore.

    Regardless of either:

    1. "what should happen to the site?"

    or

    2. "What would be the best use of this key location in Asheville's River Arts District?"

I can assure you of one thing. Jeff Dave will do whatever he projects will make him the most money. It's not about what should happen or what is best. You can bank on that.

Now the obvious and probably the most popular answer would be the same one doug said. I can personally think of a laundry list of possibilities, some of which would be more popular than others. I would place my bet on the Dave family keeping the property and developing it. I don't think they'll sell it.

mixed use for sure. line the two street sides with commercial space and the interior lower cost condos. it could be the anchor for the whole area.

They should do what they do with all newly opened urban spaces, put a parking deck on it.
