Press release here:
The Altamont, at 18 Church Street in downtown Asheville, is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of The Altamont on Friday, April 1, 2011. The event will consist of the first Altamont gallery opening coinciding with the downtown art walk from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and a performance by alt rock icon Holiday Childress from 9:00 p,m. to 11:00 p.m.
The Nathaniel Galka exhibition beautifully captures the work of the artist as it showcases an array of wondrous canvasses upon which are painted Galka’s personal interpretation of nature, with all of its color, drama, and movement. A graduate of Columbus College of Art and Design, Galka holds an MFA from Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois.
“We are delighted to feature Nathaniel Galka in our new space in collaboration with Gallery Minerva” said Brian Lee, Executive Director of The Altamont. The exhibition opening will consist of live music, food, and snacks. Galka will also make an appearance.
The Altamont grand opening will also feature a performance by singer-songwriter and founding member of the Goodies, Holiday Childress. Encompassing everything from folk to vaudeville, this unique performer’s poignant pop and cultural narratives span the full spectrum of the art. Tickets for the Childress performance are $15 in advance, purchased via TheAltamont.com, and $17 at the door.
“After months of construction delays, we are open! We are thrilled to be offering a variety of concerts, benefits, and events and ultimately Altamont Theatre Company’s 2011-12 season” exclaimed Director of Development, Honor Moor.
So many to cash in on the Altamont name but the home that housed the famous Author goes unkept . . Classy Asheville.
