Award-winning author of ‘Corpus Christi: Stories’ to visit UNCA on March 15

Bret Anthony Johnson, author of the award-winning collection, “Corpus Christi: Stories,” will visit UNC Asheville at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, in UNC Asheville’s Karpen Hall, Laurel Forum. The San Francisco Chronicle called Johnson an “author with a pitch-perfect ear for dialogue and a dead-on eye for conjuring an entire universe with one simple detail.” Johnson’s presentation will include a reading, question-and-answer period and book signing. The event is free and open to the public. 

“Corpus Christi: Stories,” was named a Best Book of the Year by The Independent of London and The Irish Times, and given the Annual Short Fiction Award by The Southern Review. Johnson has also received the Texas Institute of Letters’ Debut Fiction Award, the Christopher Isherwood Prize and the James Michener Fellowship. His work appears in magazines such as the Paris Review, The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, the Oxford American and Tin House and in anthologies such as New Stories from the South: The Year’s Best

Johnson is director of creative writing at Harvard University, and is the editor of the anthology “Naming the World: And Other Exercises for the Creative Writer.” His short story, “Republican,” won the 2008 Cohen Award as best story published in the literary magazine, Ploughshares.
