Or the GPI people are going for majority rules. The majority (even in Asheville) is M/F relationships, and the guy (traditionally) tends to take the girls out.
Everyone knows that marketing is a numbers game. The lowest common denominator always wins.
Now if they just happen to be bigots, that's a whole 'nother story.
Please don't post anything when the spring lawn & garden season gets here, Ash. Most of those ads will be targeted along the lines of "get him the best new mower" — and I don't know if I can stomach all the ridiculous self righteousness of the people who'll be offended that the marketing folks didn't directly address the lesbian handywoman market.
Maybe the crack GPI PR team figured they'd go with the largest target (and since it's Asheville, they managed to kill two birds with one stone — both the men and the women who want to surprise "her"), and assumed a minimal intelligence among the rest of the population would result in heterosexual women and gay men realizing this was not a "straight men only" opportunity.
Crack PR folks is kind of harsh!
Didn't you know that thgey're Jew haters and racists. Now, it seems homophobic and intolerant of women. Sounds likie the Grove Inn i know and (wish) i didn't live by.
I was also shocked to see something like this is a town with so many resident lesbians and gays. I guess this is not the customer base this hotel wants to build up.

I wonder why the crack PR folks at the Grove Park Inn think that only a man would be the one to plan a Valentine's Day weekend getaway? Couldn't a woman also plan something for her boyfriend or spouse? It's disgusting that this is viewed in such a one-sided way. Loyal readers and PR flacks should know better — this is 2011! Shameful!!
