The Anam Cara Collective, a new theater group getting off the ground in West Asheville, is planning a grand opening event Feb. 5 at its location on Haywood Road. The group also recently held auditions for what appears to be one of its first performances. It’s called Naked Girls Reading.

Naked Girls Reading began in Chicago in 2009, the brainchild of renown burlesquers Michelle L’amour and Franky Vivid. The event, as expected, exploded with interest. Local chapters are popping up all over. It seems a natural for a town like Asheville, which has plenty of awesome burlesque action.

Naked Girls Reading is exactly as billed: nude women, on stage, reading. Sometimes there’s a well-placed scarf, or an oversized book. But nothing else.

Stay tuned.

If "Naked Girls Reading" is coming to Asheville, will "Naked Boys Singing" be next?
