Here’s the note from an Ashvegas reader:

Anonymous tip.  State Treasury Sec & DOT Board of Directors in town viewing I-40 rock slide. While I don’t know state per diem or reimbursements, I understand the group is staying @ the Grove Park Inn.  Really? With all the talk of budget problems and such?  There are there last nite & today.

It is true that the NC DOT Board members are staying at the Grove Park Inn. The DOT Board members are North Carolina citizens, not paid staff members and I have verified that they are all having to pay out of their own pockets to stay there. Quite frankly, the rates at the Grove Park Inn are great on weekdays and that rate is not any higher than those say at a Hampton Inn right now. I certainly understand the appearances associated with these politically connected members staying at a fine resort, but there is no hanky panky going on.

State rate for hotel: $65.90. GPI must be running a special.
