Here’s the note from loyal reader Craig:

The Asheville-based indie quartet Modo will bring its catchy, art-rock sound to the Grey Eagle on Sept. 24.

After the release of their first, self-titled album in November 2009, the band is exploring venues with a new cast of musicians and music. While maintaining their primary influences of pop and rock swagger, Modo has broadened their basis of influence.

Joining Modo at the Grey Eagle is Nashville’s Heypenny. BMI’s “pick of the month” artist has hit the road over the past few years in support of their Use These Spoons EP, playing events such as SXSW, Bonnaroo and, most recently, the Florida Music Festival.

Known for their infectious sound and high-energy performances, Heypenny has developed a distinctive approach to their music. The band is gearing up for the release of their new record, which was recorded at the legendary House of David Studios on Music Row.

Supporting the show is Do it to Julia, who also expects a record release in coming months.

These three bands represent a shift in the region’s music scene. From Asheville to Nashville, local music has experienced a metamorphosis, embracing less traditional styles and delving deeper into the indie scene.
