off_the_wagon_piano_barBlogAsheville picks up a tweet saying that Off the Wagon Dueling Piano Bar will open this fall in the spot now occupied by Cinjade’s, one of Asheville’s oldest nightclubs at 22 N. Market St. in downtown. That’s an interesting move by the owner, former Asheville City Councilman Chris Peterson, who has owned the club and the next-door restaurant, Magnolia’s, for years. Cinjade’s is a meat-market nightclub that has been the site of at least one stabbing death that I can recall.

Off the Wagon Dueling Piano Bar is hiring. From Craigslist:

Now hiring experienced bartenders for a new dueling piano bar in downtown Asheville. Looking for high energy, hard working, fun loving, and friendly people to add to our team.

Flair bartending is a definite plus, and will be factored into salary and hiring decisions.

We’re going to be rocking downtown Asheville like it’s never seen before, and we need the right people to help us do it! If you think you’ve got what it takes, give us a call at 828-775-7723 and leave a voicemail for Ben.

I am guessing that all of you who say the concept of Off the Wagon is “ridiculous” were frequent members of Cinjades or other “fine” establishments such as various hotel night clubs or pretentious bars where the locals pretend to be high class society but they are just your average redneck/ghetto citizens. Sure Asheville has Elaine’s at Grove Park Inn but the piano players seem restricted as to what they can and cannot do because of stuck up management. I think this concept is a great idea and it actually makes me want to venture downtown again! Plus, according to the website, it’s veterans owned, and I think we can all agree that Asheville needs more pro military and veteran based businesses

This is not just a bar. It involves live music that is entirely request based. It’s a show. So why not have the bartenders be in on it? It’s something that downtown Asheville desperately needs. There’s way more than one place to just go to for a drink in this town.

This is not something Asheville “desperately needs.” That’s ridiculous.

It’s a new and different place compared to all the bars being the same in Asheville. What’s so ridiculous about that??

How much flair should one have? 15 is the minimum, but I’m sure they want folks to express themselves. Don’t they?
