One of the hottest development corridors west of downtown Asheville is Sandhill Road. Development along the road has grown steadily in recent years, but activity is gaining momentum. Check out these marketing plans for a mixed-use development called Main Street, which is going in next to the newly opened Ingles. From the marketing flyers from FIRC Group Inc.:

-Located at US 19/23 and Sandhill Road at the entrance to Biltmore Lake community with $1+million homes

-Mixed use urban village anchored by 76,000+/sf Ingles Market

-24,000+/sf ground floor retail

-Total of 204 residences on-site: 84 above retail, 120 adjacent

-Across from AB Tech and New Belgium Brewery Distribution Center

There could be other new development in the area. The Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College trustees earlier this year voted to close two buildings at its Enka campus and consider the eventual sale of property there. The Enka campus is also on Sandhill Road.

There are also still plans to develop the former BASF site in the area. There have long been rumors that Costco was looking to open in the area.

A $5 million recreational facility including baseball and softball fields is also in the works for the area.

Talk about old news. Tony Fraga bought that property 10 years ago and had a sign up for the project ever since.
