The folks at Beer City CrossFit are awesome. Here’s a quick Q&A with co-owner Abby McDonnell that covers a few of the most-often-asked questions about CrossFit, along with some specifics about what’s happening at the gym:

Q: Let’s say I’ve been lazy this past year and want to get back in shape. Why is Beer City CrossFit good for me?
A: Because all you have to do, is show up. We handle the rest! Each class is overseen by our experienced and certified CrossFit instructors, who meet you where you are in your fitness journey. The work out of the day (WOD) is programmed by co-owner Jeremy McDonnell with goals in mind. When you join Beer City CrossFit, you’re joining more then a “just another gym.” You’re joining a community of friends who are all there to support one another.

Q: I’m feeling a little intimidated by the weightlifting moves. Can I do those moves?
A: CrossFit can be intimidating, especially for a first-timer, but we’ve got you covered. Your first two classes are “fundamentals,” where we go over all the basics and make sure we’re on the same page with your ability levels. We offer various levels of programming, each of which run simultaneously: Level 1 for beginner to intermediates; Level 2 for more advanced athletes; and Competition Level. We pride ourselves in progressing newcomers slowly so that we strengthen your weaknesses while conducting the moves safely and efficiently. You advance you when you’re ready. We don’t just toss you in with the lions.

Q: Will I lose weight with CrossFit?
A: Duh! It’s not easy, but as long as you show up, leave your ego at the door, and train hard, the results will speak for themselves.

Q: Do I have to follow a specific diet if I do CrossFit?
A: “Specific” – no. But, you can’t out train a shitty diet, so eating healthy is a top priority. We have a gym-wide nutritional challenge going hot on Jan. 16. We’ll have a seminar beforehand, online food journal, performance-tracking workouts and you’ll have a group of supporters who are all suffering sans-donuts right along with you. There isn’t a better time to join!

Q: Is there anything else new at Beer City Crossfit these days?

    BCCF is awesome! Community is great, and the workouts leave you sore the next day (hello progress!).
