Want to go?  Just be one of the first 5 people to reply to the following question and you’ll win a pair of tickets to Thursday’s show:

Other than climbing the world’s highest mountains, which death-defying challenge do you consider to be nature’s most daring?

Please use your correct first and last name when you comment.  Tickets will be available for pick-up at The Carolina on Thursday night.

Press release:
ActionFest Film Festival is pleased to announce the fourth film of its monthly screening series.  THE SUMMIT, Nick Ryan’s powerful documentary which made its debut at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, explores the deaths of 11 mountain climbers attempting to reach the summit of K2 in 2008.  It will screen one night only at The Carolina Asheville on Thursday, July 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Although K2 is only the second-highest peak in the world, it is renowned as the most dangerous and revered by mountaineers as their ultimate challenge. In August 2008, 18 of 24 climbers reached the summit of K2. Forty-eight hours later, 11 people were dead. What happened on the mountain has never been resolved.Utilizing found footage, interviews with survivors, and seamlessly realistic reenactments, The Summit zigzags back and forth in time, interweaving multiple narrative threads and piecing together events, hoping to solve the mystery of what actually happened on that day—the deadliest in mountain-climbing history. At the heart of the mystery is the story of Ger McDonnell, one extraordinary man who chose to risk his own life to save others. With the help of breathtaking cinematography by Robbie Ryan and Stephen O’Reilly, director Nick Ryan creates a tension-filled, experiential film that will have viewers on the edge of their seats. The Summit pits Man against Mother Nature in her most majestic and terrifying extreme.
All proceeds from this screening will be donated to HOMEWARD BOUND, celebrating its 25th anniversary of providing pathways to housing for the homeless in Asheville. The suggested donation for admission is $10. Those in attendance will receive complimentary pints of beer donated by our friends at French Broad, PLUS complimentary soft drinks AND popcorn donated by Carolina Cinemas. This is truly the best entertainment value in Asheville.

I would have to say BASE Jumping. I can’t imagine jumping off of anything with the hopes a nylon sheet will stop my fall.
The 2nd most death defying is spending more than an hour with my mother in law.

Free diving. Swimming straight down 300+ ft underwater with no oxygen other than what is in your lungs terrifies the crap out of me.
