Press release:
ActionFest Film Festival is pleased to announce the third film of its monthly screening series. HAMMER OF THE GODS, Farren Blackburn’s epic Viking tale, will enjoy its North American premiere at The Carolina Asheville at a one night only screening on Thursday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m.
Set in Viking Britain in 871 AD, HAMMER OF THE GODS is a visceral, intense tale set in a world whose only language is violence. A young Viking warrior, Steinar (Charlie Bewley), is sent by his father the Viking king on a quest to find his estranged brother, who was banished from the kingdom many years before. Steinar’s journey across terrifyingly hostile Saxon territory gradually sees him emerge as the man his father wants him to be – the ruthless and unforgiving successor to his throne.
All proceeds from this screening will be donated to HOMEWARD BOUND, celebrating its 25th anniversary of providing pathways to housing for the homeless in Asheville. The suggested donation for admission is $10. Those in attendance will receive complimentary pints of NINJA PORTER, donated by our friends at Asheville Brewing, PLUS complimentary soft drinks AND popcorn donated by Carolina Cinemas. This is truly the best entertainment value in Asheville.

Congrats to Annie, Eric, Kevin, Ashley, and Tim.
Just a few minutes too late, Jason. If one of the above 5 is unable to use his/her tickets, let me know and I’ll pass them along to Jason.
The fight scenes in Hero (2002.) Although the final battle in 13 Assassins is pretty epic.
Best battle scene I’d have to say the newest Pearl Harbor
300 for sure – that entire movie was one epic battle after another.

The previews on YouTube were not very impressive. Looked like something made on a shoestring budget, like for a first-time shorts festival, YouTube, or direct-to-DVD. Disappointing, because I would like to see more movies from the Viking era, like “The 13th Warrior”.
So, I take it you don’t want to go?
I work that night. Maybe I will see it at a matinee when (if?) if comes out in general release locally.
When/if is a good question. The Carolina ran Java Heat for a week, so we’ll see about this one.
mmmm…Battle implies war, and while I typically enjoy (loosely) historically based war movies (a la ‘The Patriot’ or ‘Saving Private Ryan’), I’d have to give this one to ‘300’ – strictly based on how the entire movie was shot. At the time, it was fairly creative and fresh, but I think it may be considered a little over-done now.
Ip and Miura’s final battle on the raised stage in Ip Man.
The best battle sequence is arguable the battle of Helms Deep from the LOTR movies. Literally hundreds to thousands of extras, and it takes a while to realize that 3/4 of them are CGI. It has everything you need in a battle: drama, friendship, gore, and Orcs.
